Company background: Through accumulating decades of plant operations experience, Capstone Technology utilizes its expertise to deliver innovative software and training solutions to its customer base, consisting of global process manufacturers. It has installed hundreds of installations of its plant information and plant automation software, dataPARC and MACS, respectively, across a diverse set of process industries, including oil & gas, pulp & paper, power & utility, chemicals & refining, metals & mining, and food & beverage. Capstone’s solutions strive to inject a culture of continuous improvement amongst its client base.
Problem statement: In order to stay competitive, Capstone realized its website, specifically, and its overall software development methodology, generally, could benefit from a thorough review and revamp. The software being developed was not efficiently addressing its customers’ needs from a timing- and content-perspective.
Action plan: Through our engagement, iTrellis began with an assessment phase to clearly identify the issues that were plaguing Capstone. A strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis was performed, thereby allowing us to eliminate bottlenecks and restructure roles to increase greater efficiencies. iTrellis was instrumental in showcasing a more modern software development methodology directly through its code output and underlying processes. We facilitated the creation of a product roadmap by building out a transparent product backlog and incorporated Scrum practices as part of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) approach, which further supported their Dev-Ops activities. We incorporated a servant leadership model, thereby empowering the teams to be successful moving forward, after our engagement was completed.
Resultant solution: Through the well-organized and transparent backlog, Capstone now had greater awareness of the overall company vision amongst its employees. And its customers benefitted tremendously through the implementation of desired product updates and feature requests along with visibility into further planned enhancements.
